The British School of Beijing is non-profit, independent organisation established to provide British education to the expatriate community of Beijing. The school was established in 2003 at a time when no other school in Beijing was offering the English National Curriculum and its principal aim continues to be the provision of educational excellence based on the National Curriculum.

ISB has its roots as a U.S. Embassy School. It began in the early 1970's under the auspices of the U.S. Liaison Office that opened in Beijing following the historic visits to China of U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and U.S. President Richard Nixon.

In 2003 Dulwich College London founded their first international school in China, and in August 2003 our magnificent, purpose-built school opened its doors to over 500 new students in Shanghai. This was the first step for Dulwich College in creating bold and valuable links with Asia.

Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing) has been in operation since the beginning of the 1995-96 academic year. Our school was founded informally by parents, we believe in 1990. It was a school for very young children only – the product of parents who were concerned that being in China should not present an obstacle to the family being together, nor to the children receiving a good education.
